Internal Family Systems Therapy
A journey from woundedness to wholeness
Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers an evidence-based approach grounded in the understanding that we all harbor various internal parts or sub-personalities. These parts often originated in response to past traumas or challenges, assuming extreme roles as protective measures. Trauma, attachment injuries, and various difficult experiences force these parts out of their natural, valuable states into more extreme roles.
Our parts help us to navigate through life, yet they can also limit us. In many cases, we have parts that are holding onto old beliefs, patterns, and behaviors that no longer serve us. Frustration can arise because these parts are stuck in the past and resistant to change.
Central to our therapeutic journey is the concept of “the Self” within the IFS model, representing our essence, soul, or Buddha nature. Through cultivating curiosity and compassion towards all our internal parts, we can begin to release behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that no longer serve us. This process allows us to engage with the world with greater presence and heartfulness.
As your guide, my role is to assist you in navigating your inner landscape. Together, we will explore and identify the major and minor parts of your internal system, understanding their fears and concerns. Through compassionate exploration, we will work towards helping these parts release burdens from the past and transition into new, more life-affirming roles.
Rather than analyzing, interpreting, and problem-solving, my work as a practitioner is to support a connection between your Self and parts to open the way for witnessing. This approach reframes the therapeutic relationship, uplifting and empowering you as the healing source for your wounded parts.
